About us

The Indianhead Chorus is a fraternity of men drawn together by a love of singing four-part, close acappella harmony music known as barbershop.

We are committed to:

  • Improving the vocal and visual level of performance

  • Growing the chapter

  • Sharing our music with an ever-growing audience.

We are currently comprised of between twenty and thirty singers, men from all walks of life - farmers, lawyers, teachers, tradesmen, truck drivers...

We come from all over Burnett and Polk Counties in Northwest Wisconsin. Others live in St. Croix and Barron Counties; a few come across the bridge from Minnesota.

Some of us have had some formal vocal training, some can't begin to read music. The two things we all have in common is a love of singing, and a love of making, and sharing music with others.

Indiandhead Barbershop Chorus -  Polk County Fair

We are active throughout the year, singing at county fairs, multiple music in the park event, spring and fall concerts and on Christmas street corners.

We appear everywhere from Siren to Amery to Rice Lake, and even across the river in Minnesota.

On two Sundays each summer, we organize a Gospel Run, singing for multiple church services in a single morning.

The highlight of our year is October's Harvest of Harmony, but most of our members sing with the full chorus throughout the year. Many of our guys also perform regularly as members of quartets. However much you want to sing, we've got a place for you.

Contest:  We are the Polk-Burnett County chapter of the Barbershop Harmony Society. While it is not our main emphasis, we usually take part in the annual Society sponsored contest, and have placed in the Top Ten choruses at our District Competition.

Legacy

We've been ringing chords for more than sixty years. Chorus leadership, including the music directorship are all home-grown.

Loren Nelson, our Director Emeritus, was a driving force in the early years, when we first received our charter from S.P.E.B.S.Q.S.A., the Society for the Preservation and Encouragement of Barbershop Quartet Singing in America.

In the picture, Loren directs the chorus in a rendition of "Keep the Whole World Singing" at the 2010 Harvest of Harmony, our 52nd annual show.

We are what we are today because of men like Loren and others.  All members past and present, carry that same love for music and singing.   Thank you to our founding members.
